We have...

...access to excellent experimental facilities for studying living organisms at the University of Gothenburg's marine reseach laboratory at Tjärnö (part of the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences). The laboratory is situated by the sea front, offering access to habitats varying from shallow-water to deep-sea systems, all within 15 minutes by boat. The combination of equipment, environment and competence provides excellent opportunities for research.

Part of the facilities at Tjärnö are specially designed for research in marine chemical ecology and molecular biology.

Tjärnö marinbiological laboratory

Lovén Centre - Tjärnö

The research station at Tjärnö is situated at the Koster fjord which in 2009 became the first Swedish Marine National Park. The marine surroundings covers easy-to-reach low-impacted marine environments of a wide range of shallow and deep habitats, including deep cold-water coral reefs, all reached within 5-20 minutes from the research station. The great potential for field sampling and outdoor experimental manipulations, combined with indoor facilities for maintenance, culture, experiment and analysis, make this station an excellent resource for coastal marine research.
